Today has been a slow day so I had the time to watch the Visitor, a good movie I watched a while ago, and Up in the Air, the newly acclaimed movie with George Clooney.
First, The Visitor:
The Visitor, written and directed by Thomas McCarthy, is about a quiet middle class professor who shows up to his New York apartment to find two squatters living in his home. This movie is not mainstream by any means, but is yet another independent movie that hits it big on the mainstream industry. The movie stars Richard Jenkins, a well known character actor who most recently was seen in Dear John, and it is with his awkward approach to an unknown couple, an unknown culture, and his deep desire to not only learn new things but embrace the new culture. This movie is a solid 4 stars out of five and is a gem to anyone looking to step off the beaten track of mainstream film.
Second, Up in the Air:
Up in the Air, starring George Clooney and Anna Kendrick, was written and directed Jason Reitman is a comedy about a man, Clooney, who travels from company to company to fire people because their bosses are too cowardly to do it themselves. Clooney's character is a man who thrives in the traveling environment and is aiming to a man of no commitment and no emotional attachment as he zooms from city to city. His plans are pulled to a stop when his company introduces a new program that does his job over the internet and eliminates his need to travel. Up in the Air is a classic comedy of a man having to reexamine his life after fate hands him a set world altering circumstances. By the end of the film the audience is not only in love with Clooney's stylish and smooth lines but also with the other star studded cast that make hilarious cameos as canned employees. This is folks my first five star movie, rent it, enjoy it, wear it out lol.
