Safe House and the Power of Denzel

So,
For the first time in a while I was able to get together and go and have a date night with the wife and take a trip to the theater. After long deliberation and some pouting, she agreed to sit through Safe House, the new action flick with Ryan Reynolds.

Now let me state, I am not huge on any film laden with CGI, pointless explosions, and shallow plot, Safe House is not one of those films. Safe House is about a young CIA agent who's playing housekeeper in a CIA safe house. His life is rocked with Tobin Frost, the world's most dangerous rogue CIA agent played by Denzel Washingon, is captured and interrogated at his safe house. The film is a gut turning, hard hitting, thrill ride that has no stops. The gritty and realistic way the film is shot is a true homage to the original Bourne Identity films and is a sure fire way to tease the senses and help help the audience lose themselves in the action.

Filmed in South Africa, really South Africa and not southern California, the film showcases the good, the bad, and the stunningly beautiful that Africa has to offer. This all star cast of Ryan Reynolds, Denzel Washington, is supported by such momentous figures like Brendan Gleeson, Sam Shepard, and Robert Patrick. The fights are fast paced, bone crunching, and the action keeps everyone at the edge of their seat to the very end.

Safe House is a great, ORIGINAL, thriller that hallmarks Clancy films such as Hunt for Red October, Clear and Present Danger, and Patriot Games. Denzel never fails to please with his on screen performance and Ryan Reynolds, once you get him out of the Green Lantern costume, proves to able to hold his own and keep pace with such a powerhouse like Denzel. Safe House, hands down, is a must see; a solid four stars!!
