In Remembrance

I woke up this morning and flipped on the news. The first story I hear is of Tony Scott's suicide and I'm floored with surprise and sadness. Tony Scott's work like Man on Fire, Top Gun, True Romance, Spy Game, and The Hunger, all inspired me to want to become a film maker. His effect on Hollywood was tremendous and I know he will be missed by fellow directors and movie goers alike.

As I wrote this blog, my mother asked why I was so concerned about this event. I did not know Tony Scott personally and for the most part his passing will not directly affect me, so why should I care? I care because my life is filled with writers, actors, directors, and pop fiction icons that have marked certain events in my life. Without their contribution to my life, my imagination would not be as full as it is, my live would be void of color and wonder. Though I did not know Tony Scott, his work inspired me, entertained me, sparked imagination in portions of my brain that I hadn't known existed. That kind of impact marks people and whether or not they know or understand it, it's icons like Tony Scott that we must thank for that.

In closing, this last ten years has been hard on the entertainment industry. Superstars, both on and off, the silver screen have fallen prey to drug over dose, suicide, cancer, so on so forth. They are gone and their passing is felt world wide whether we like to admit it or not. So today, take a moment and go out and rent a Tony Scott film or take the time to sit down and be thankful for the time that you did get to spend watching films like Beverly Hills Cop II, Deja Vu, Man on Fire, The Last Boy Scout, any one of the Scott gems.

Anyway,
Just my thoughts,

J.
