Upcoming excitement!

Well movie fans the summer season is picking up speed and I have to say that I am rather excited about the coming attractions that will be hitting theaters in the coming months. Here are my top five:

1: Forget the Twilight foolery, forget the civil war flops I feel that a true gem of the summer will be Predators, produced by none other than Robert Rodriguez and directed by Nimr`od Antal, this film stands to be just the shot in the arm this franchise needs after such disappointing sequels like AvP: Requiem. If you're a true fan of the comic books and the earlier films then you should be near panic about the all star cast with Adrian Brody and Laurence Fishburne. July 9th will be a day to mark on your calenders, be sure to be at the theater early with plenty of popcorn and desire to watch a good sci-fi film.

2: Now this could be just because I am a geek and loved the cartoon but I have to say that I am pretty excited about The Last Airbender, directed by M. Night Shyamalan. This film, based upon the popular Nickelodian cartoon, stands to be the opening of a new franchise of films that could stand to rival the Harry Potter films that will soon be wrapping up. This film will be M. Night's second attempt at children's films, his first being Lady in the Water. I have to say that I find M. Night is one of my favorite directors and I have found all of his movies entertaining. I can't wait until I get to partake of his vision of this film.

3: Remember when it was cool to enjoy Tom Cruise movies? Well love him or hate him is hilarious return as Les Groseman was a hit on all fronts and has drawn audiences's attention away from Scientology and returned it to the actors talent and ability to be both exciting and entertaining. Having said this I am highly interested in Knight and Day, in hopes that it gets better reviews than the Killers. Staring Cameron Diaz and Peter Sarsgaard this film stands to be both action packed and extremely funny as Tom Cruise plays a super spy who gets a normal woman evolved in his fight to stay alive. I am going to have to label this one a must see for June 23rd.

4: Now since I've become a father I have found that my movie choices have been narrowed slightly if I want to go to the movies as much as I like so in the past I have been treated to such animated jewels as How to Train Your Dragon and Shrek Forever, so of course I had to list Despicable Me in the ranks of what's cool to come. Steve Carell, Jason Segel, and Russell Brand, this movie stands to be the funniest and safest for children hands down. If you have kids this would be the best way to spend money and get entertainment for the whole family.

5: The last one might not agree with most, in fact it probably won't just because of the people involved with the film, but films like this hold a special place in my heart and I can't wait to see it. The film is called the Expendables, it's directed and it's main star is Sylvester Stallone, and it's cast is a star studded tribute to action films of the late eighties and early nineties. Stars like Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, and Eric Roberts stand to grace the screen along with cameos by Bruce Willis and the Governator himself. This stands to be an action packed free fall that can only entertain the little boys deep inside you. You might leave the theater lacking that deep seated entertainment, but I promise you will be momentarily entertained and sometimes that's just enough.

Anyway, that's my word.

  1. I totally agree with The Predators, the story line looks a lot better and I love that it's done by Robert Rodriguez.
    M. Night doing Avatar is an intresting twist on his part. The graphics look amazing and even though I have never seen the anime I do have an intrest in this movie.
I took Patrick to see Shrek, it was pretty good but really short.
Now, The Expendables...holy crap! Almost every action hero for the past three generations that's just awesome. Same may say overkill but I say baddass.
