Directed by Stephen Daldry and starring Tom Hanks, Max Von Sydow, and Sandra Bullock; Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is a film about one boy's mission to find his after after his father is killed in the trade towers on 9/11. The film takes a tragedy that shook the nation and repaints in strokes made by a child's mind and understanding. Director Stephen Daldry attempts to bring not only the plot of the film but the main character's story to the front steps of the audience just as young Oskar Schell goes to the door steps New Yorkers in an attempt to find the origin of a mysterious key.
This film hits the heart hard and brings home the impact of such an event that so many only witnessed on television. Through the eyes of young actor Thomas Horn, the characters and tale of the combined emotions of a city, a family, a child who are deal with loss that has no words. Tom Hanks, Max Von Sydow, and Thomas Horn all shine in this gripping tale of loss, discovery, and finding the end of a tragedy that sometimes isn't the end you expect, but the end you need to make sense of things.
You should go out and rent this movie. Sit down with a loved one and hold them in your arms as you watch this sad, mysterious, happy, and tragic tale. It's a solid five star success and something you'll regret not seeing.
Just my thoughts,
J.
