Last night the wife and I were in the mood for something a little more eerie than The Avengers, so we took in the new John Cusack film The Raven. The film is set in the last days of American author Edgar Allen Poe and is a complex murder mystery that is filled with horrors, chills, and suspense that will keep you on edge until the very end.
John Cusack's performance of the late author is the real gem of this film. His dark mood, filled with melancholy, his highs and lows filled with bursts of rage and spouts of pure passion. John Cusack pushes the limits with every line he gives and every emotion he shares with his audience. Add this impact with the magic provided by Cusack's costars Alice Eve and Luke Evans and a blockbuster is at hand.
The Raven's director, James McTeigue, is the famed director of V for Vendetta and doesn't stop pleasing with this dark flow of murder and passion. The themes of madness and murder are well managed as the plot twists and turns to involve both the characters at hand and the audience watching. Using the tools of epic acting ability and the weaving of a good story, James McTeigue is able to push through the gloom and mystery of the life of an actual American legend and is able to build a masterful story that is worthy of praise.
The Raven is a gem because it's not filled with CGI, there is no halfed ass plot kit at works, and it's not a remake of some other film. It is a good, ORIGINAL, film and deserves to be watched and hailed!! The Raven is a solid five stars and I hope that you go and see it soon!!
