Vanishing on 7th Street and The Debt

Today was a twofer day. I watched Vanishing on 7th Street, with John Leguizamo and Hayden Christensen, and The Debt, with Sam Worthington and Helen Mirren. I enjoyed both, but let me explain.

Vanishing on 7th Street:

This is a flick about random disappearances brought on by this wave of darkness. Survivors of this seeming apocalypse group together at a bar and try and figure out how to not only stay alive but stay in the light that wards off the soul eating darkness. Now this film stars Hayden Christensen and I have to say that this probably one of my least favorite actors. His characters are usually either too hip or cry babies. His over the top emotions contaminate any film, including the Star Wars prequels. In this film though, they kind of fit with the world ending theme that is propelled by John Leguizamo and his knowledge of the myths of Roanoke mass disappearances. All in all the film is not an all star film, but is entertaining and something to hit up on Netflix if you can find nothing else to watch.

The Debt:
I've been looking forward to seeing this gem for a while. Starring icons such as Tom Wilkinson, Helen Mirren and Ciaran Hinds, this couldn't lose. I'm very pleased to say that it matched my expectations 100%. The film is about three Israel spies sent to Berlin to kidnap a Nazi war criminal and the trials and tribulations that follow both the past and the present visions of these heroes. Directed by John Madden, no not the sports guy lol, this film is a great mixture of suspense, action, and drama. The past sequences match up well with the memory flashbacks of such troubled characters that are further propelled by their younger counter parts such as Sam Worthington,  Jessica Chastain, and Marton Csokas. This is a solid gem and should be watched immediately!

Just my thoughts
