Hey guys,
Just got in from a great weekend of movies. I saw Transformers 3 last night and Green Lantern today and had mixed emotions about both.
Transformers 3: Dark Side of the Moon
Well I was down on this flick from the get go. I felt that there were plot gaps and that the sudden change from one actress to another would bomb the movie before it ever got started. Well, I was wrong. Transformers 3 never failed to impress with the CGI, action sequences, and plot points that filled whatever gaps I thought I had. Shia LaBeouf and his new costar Rosie Huntington-Whiteley shine with on screen chemistry that has you scratching your head asking "Megan who?". Also the support characters from special forces to two miniature robots never stop adding to an already complex plot to bring it to a climatic ending. Transformers 3 was a certain step up from the last film and a well rounded ending for the franchise.
Green Lantern
Such a sad day when two hundred million dollars can't buy a good movie. Sure the effects are amazing and there are things in the film that you have never seen before, but there is no plot. This plot thing has turned out to be a pretty big thing when making movies. Green Lantern fails to deliver. Sure it has a hot lead actor and a hot co star but the story itself fails to impress. The basic moral of the movie is with great power, comes great responsibility and unfortunately that was covered in all three of the Spider Man films. Ryan Reynolds does manage to pull off his role well but Peter Sarsgaard completely falls short of pulling off his evil villain routine and instead comes off as whiny geek. All and all the film just failed to impress and is one more costly lesson that alot of ohhs and awes are great, but a little plot is necessary when building a block buster film.
Just my thoughts,
J.
